What you need to know

PPE: goggles, boots, gloves, overalls. Tie hair. No play in the workshop.
First aid: stop the machine, call the teacher, do not crowd the injured person.
Drawing: a line has meaning. Outline is thick, construction is thin, hidden is dashed, centre is chain.
Isometric: 30° to the horizontal, for a 3-D look. Orthographic: front, side, plan — three views of one object.
Wood: hardwood (iroko, mahogany) from broadleaf trees; softwood (pine) from conifers. Seasoning dries wood so it will not warp later.
Metal: ferrous contains iron (steel, cast iron) and can rust; non-ferrous does not (aluminium, copper, brass).

“Hard wood” is not the same as hardwood. Balsa is a hardwood and it is soft. The name is about the tree family.
